Arfaide is a village a few hours south of Arba Minch in southern Ethiopia. Hope International sent the drilling rig and support crew there to put in a borehole. The drilling took about 5 days, going to a depth of approximately 240'. The pipe was then capped, and the crew pulled out, leaving the pump installation for another team. Although there is a road through the village, it was not well travelled, and most of the children in the village were surprised to see their reflections in the mirrors and windows of the trucks. Got malaria from the visit, fortunately treatment was successful. The HOPE rig drilled many boreholes for the people of Ethiopia, although the shift to spring capping was inevitable - less moving parts, less maintenance issues.
